Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has publicly condemned the circulation of videos showing her under-construction Bandra bungalow calling it a “serious security issue” and a clear violation of privacy.
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Alia Bhatt took to Instagram to criticise Indian paparazzi after videos of her new family home in Mumbai’s Pali Hill were widely shared online. The residence currently being developed on the former site of Raj Kapoor’s Krishna Raj bungalow has been under construction for nearly three years.
Clips of the six-storey property sparked rumours that Bhatt, her husband Ranbir Kapoor and their daughter Raha had already moved in speculation the actor dismissed. Instead, she emphasised that the act of filming and circulating such private content was both invasive and unsafe.
Alia Bhatt’s Statement on Privacy
In her post, Bhatt acknowledged Mumbai’s crowded urban setting, where residential buildings often face one another. However, she stressed that this cannot be used as justification for filming private homes.
“I understand that in a city like Mumbai, space is limited — sometimes the view from your window is another person’s home. But that does not give anyone the right to film private residences and push those videos online,” she wrote.
Calling the footage a “serious security issue”, she urged media platforms and individuals to take it down and requested audiences not to forward such content.
Not First Incident
This is not the first time Alia Bhatt has spoken out against privacy violations.
- Earlier this month, she was filmed confronting photographers outside her building after they followed her into the premises.
- In 2023, Bhatt criticised paparazzi for capturing her in her living room through a window, describing it as a “gross invasion of privacy.”
Her repeated objections highlight a growing tension between Bollywood celebrities and aggressive paparazzi culture.

Bollywood’s Struggle With Paparazzi Culture
Bhatt is not alone in voicing such concerns.
- Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli previously condemned a photographer for clicking their pictures at home in 2021 despite repeated pleas for privacy. The couple also issued a formal request asking that their daughter Vamika not be photographed.
- Several other celebrities including Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor have also asked media outlets to respect family boundaries.
The debate reflects a broader issue while actors remain open to publicity during promotions, premieres and public events, they argue that filming at homes, schools or during holidays crosses a line.
Legacy Property Under Spotlight
The property at the centre of this latest controversy is significant beyond its luxury value. Estimated to cost around ₹250 crore, it is being redeveloped by Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor into a family residence. The house stands on the historic land of Raj and Krishna Raj Kapoor’s bungalow making it both a personal and legacy project for the Kapoor family.
For Bhatt, the viral spread of unauthorised videos of the home not only breached her privacy but also disrespected a property tied to cinematic history.
