Pakistani writer, actor and noted feminist Mira Sethi has revealed that she was offered a major role in ARY Digital’s hit drama “Main Manto Nahi Hoon” but she turned it down due to the writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s misogynistic behavior.

Mira shared this revelation during a public discussion on women’s rights with writer Muneeb Qadir, a conversation that has recently gone viral on social media.

Mira Sethi’s Stand, “I Don’t Compromise on Principles”

During the conversation, Mira Sethi explained:

“I really wanted to do the role because I’ve previously worked with Humayun Saeed and Sajal Aly but I cannot go against my feminist identity. If I collaborate with someone who constantly disrespects women, what’s the point of my principles?”

She emphasized that for her, ethical and intellectual integrity outweighs professional success.

Sanam Saeed’s Reservations About Script

Interestingly, Sanam Saeed herself admitted in an earlier interview that she had reservations about the script written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar but chose to perform while maintaining her personal boundaries.

In one of the early episodes, a “fat-shaming joke” triggered backlash sparking intense debate on social media regarding the show’s tone and values.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s Controversial Record

Mira Sethi’s decision is also meaningful because Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has been severely criticized for his anti-women statements in the past. Some of the controversial cases are:

  • Slandering Marvi Sarmad on live TV show.
  • Making victim-blaming comments during the Noor Mukadam murder case.
  • Linking feminism to the “collapse of family values.”

Mira previously said:

“Khalil sahib has made himself the flag-bearer of a mindset that is harmful to women. He thinks he’s right but in truth, he represents a very ugly form of thinking.”
