The Punjab government’s budget for fiscal year 2025-26 has been presented and it includes several major projects related to roads and transport. Development Budget

This year’s Annual Development Programme (ADP) is the largest in Punjab’s history with an outlay of Rs. 1.24 trillion, an increase of nearly 47% over last year. Out of this, Rs 335.5 billion has been allocated only for infrastructure i.e. roads, bridges and transport.

Construction and Maintenance of Roads

An important aspect of the budget is the construction and maintenance of roads across the province at a cost of Rs. 120 billion. Improving roads in small towns and remote areas is an important part of this plan.

50 billion rupees have been allocated for the Chief Minister Local Roads Program, which will be spent on the repair and expansion of broken roads, especially in rural areas.

The project will provide the following facilities:

  • Repair and openness of old or narrow roads.
  • New roads connecting remote areas with highways.
  • Safe and easy travel for rural people.

Improvement of Public Transport

The Punjab government has allocated 80-85 billion rupees for the development of the transport sector. These include both existing projects and new initiatives.

The main investments include:

  • Rs 30 billion for Mass Transit Systems in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala
  • Rs. 3.5 billion for the launch of e-taxi (electric taxi) scheme
  • 46 billion rupees for the deployment of electric buses

These environment-friendly measures will not only improve traffic It will also help reduce air pollution.

Focussing on Disadvantaged Areas

This time the budget is focussing not only on big cities but also on backward districts like Layyah and Bhakkar, for which Rs 24.5 billion has been allocated.

  • Ease of transportation for small businesses and farmers
