Lahore: The Punjab University has removed the session gap condition for admission to the LLB program, further opening the doors for those who want to pursue legal education. The Academic Council of the University has approved this important proposal, and now it has been sent to the Syndicate for final approval.
Punjab University (PU) has specific new rules for LLB aspirants. Key requirements include passing the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Law Admission Test (LAT) with at least 50% marks and also appearing in the PU Admission Test. Candidates must also have passed their FA/F.Sc./’A’ Level or equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks. There is no age limit for the 5-year LLB program.
Key Requirements for PU LLB Admission:
- Educational Qualification: Candidates need to have passed their FA/F.Sc./’A’ Level or equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks.
- HEC LAT: Passing the Law Admission Test (LAT) conducted by HEC with a minimum of 50% passing marks is mandatory.
- PU Admission Test: Applicants must also appear in the PU Admission Test.
- No Age Limit: There is no age limit for the 5-year LLB program.
- Online Application: All admission forms are submitted online, and no forms are accepted by hand or post.
- Weightage: The PU Admission Test carries a weightage of 25% in the overall merit calculation.

Until now, students who did not take admission in the LLB program within five years after intermediate were not eligible for admission under this policy. This meant that applicants had to apply within five years of their FA/FSc or equivalent qualification which effectively barring older students or those returning to academics later in life. This policy was especially hindering for those who were forced to take a break from education due to some compulsion or personal reason.
The 5-year LLB program is offered in the University Law College, Law Departments (Gujranwala and Jhelum Campuses), and affiliated colleges.
Admission Criteria
- Have passed FA/F.Sc./ ‘A’ Level or equivalent examination with a minimum of 55% marks.
- Have passed the Law Admission Test (LAT) conducted by HEC with 50% passing marks and with a validity date for admission.
- Must have appeared in the PU Admission Test conducted by Punjab University.
- Foreign applicants are generally exempted from the entry test.
Program Duration Also Reduced
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has also reduced the duration of the LLB Honours program from five years to four years. This move is aimed to align legal education in Pakistan with international standards and reducing the academic burden on students.
