Beijing – Global smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has officially announced that it is completely discontinuing development of HyperOS 2 shifting its full focus to HyperOS 3. As a result of this breakthrough, the company has added nine smartphones to the “End-Of-Life” list, which will not be provided with any kind of security or software updates.

The move was taken when Xiaomi released the version of HyperOS 2 recently but now all the big and future updates will be subject to HyperOS 3.

Affected Devices

The following smartphones have been listed in Xiaomi’s End-of-Life list:

  • Redmi A1
  • Redmi A1+
  • Redmi 11 Prime 4G
  • Poco C50
  • Poco M5
  • Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
  • Xiaomi 11 Lite LE
  • Xiaomi 11T
  • Xiaomi 11T Pro

These devices will receive their final security patch in September 2025 after which no further software or feature updates will be provided. According to sources, some of these models did not receive full HyperOS 2 support either so their exclusion from HyperOS 3 was expected.

HyperOS 3

According to Xiaomi, HyperOS 3 will launch with a modern, smooth and refined user interface based on Android 16. The new operating system promises enhanced performance, smoother graphics and advanced app transitions.

Highlights:

  • Beta Release: Expected in late 2025
  • Stable Release: Likely to launch alongside the Xiaomi 16 series
  • New Features: Improved UI, faster performance and enhanced privacy features
  • Base System: Android 16

Impact on Users

After this decision of Xiaomi, users of older phones will now likely go towards the upgrade as the features of HyperOS 3 will not be available in their existing phones. The change reflects future vision of Xiaomi of moving towards a fast, secure and visually innovative experience as other major smartphone brands have done based on Android 16.

Removal of HyperOS 2 is a decision that not only symbolizes a change in software strategy. Rather, it also prompts users to move towards next-generation smartphones and advanced features. HyperOS 3, along with Android 16 could be the start of a new era for Xiaomi users.
